Monday Social Dance with Jazz Jam

WHAT IS IT:

• All welcome from the first time swing dancer to the more experienced. No partner required.

• If you are attending a Monday evening class the social dance with jazz jam is included in the class price.

• We have the best swing DJs to keep your dancing shoes happy all the way from 9-10pm.

•  The social dance features a special jazz jam which starts around 9:15pm. In the jazz jam you will be shown some new steps and how to use them to play with the music, express your individuality and have fun with your fellow dancers.

WHAT TO BRING:

•  Water bottle & spare t-shirt. It can get warm if you're dancing a lot.

•  Comfortable footwear.

•  A warm jumper. It can get chilly in the studio between dances.

WHAT HAPPENS AT SOCIALS:

•  Ask anyone and everyone to dance. All experience levels very welcome. It's exciting to get  to dance with different people each night. If someone is tired or chatting with a long lost friend they might say "no thanks" but most of the time if you ask the answer will be an enthusiastic "yes please".

•  Classic routines. There are a number of dance routines such as the Shim-Sham, Tranky Do, Big Apple, Stew that were choreographed by some of the original dancers. Many people who are dancing for a while know these fun routines. Feel free to join in if you know the moves or just have fun trying to copy what the person next to you is doing.

•  Jams and dance battles. These are a key part of the origins and culture of swing dancing and swing music. It's a way for community members to share moves, rhythms, inspiration, energy and to show support for one another. So if you see a circle forming on the dance floor get closer and join in.

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING:

•  Failte Swing @ Dublin Studio EVERY MONDAY with open level drop in solo jazz class 7-8pm, beginner drop in swing dance class 8-9pm, fun and friendly social dance & jazz jam 9-10pm.

•  Failte Hot Club @ Leinster Cricket Club MONTHLY live jazz band party with beginner swing dance class, social dancing, and dance performances ancommunity performances. Dates for 2024 are: Jan 27, Feb 24, Mar 23, Apr 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, Aug 10, Oct 26 and Nov 23.

•  Failte Swing Weekender ANNUAL FESTIVAL is back in 2024 with the amazing Maria & Aurelien teaching, best live bands, best venues, performances, competitions and more Sept 13-15.
