Monday Swing Dance Class

In the Swing Dance Class you will learn the classic steps of lindy hop and charleston and how to have the most fun with your partner and with the music.

In February we will be playing with the 8 count lindy hop rhythm with different topics each week including moves such as the swing out, lindy circle and other fun variations.

The ticket price also includes a social dance and jazz jam session from 9:00-10:00pm. So if you can why not stay after class to practice what you've learned, get to know your classmates and maybe pick up some cool moves at the free jazz jam led by our teachers from 9:15-9:30pm.

PARTNER: None required as we will be rotating partner regularly throughout the class.

DANCE EXPERIENCE: None required.

AGE: 18 to 118 years.

REFUNDS:

If you can't make it and you let us know at least 24 hours before the event starts we will issue a refund. The €1 booking fee is non-refundable.

WHAT TO BRING:

•  Water bottle & spare t-shirt. It can get warm if you're dancing a lot.

•  Comfortable footwear.

•  A warm jumper. It can get chilly in the studio between dances.

WHAT HAPPENS AT SOCIALS:

•  Ask anyone and everyone to dance. All experience levels very welcome. It's exciting to get  to dance with different people each night. If someone is tired or chatting with a long lost friend they might say "no thanks" but most of the time if you ask the answer will be an enthusiastic "yes please".

•  Classic routines. There are a number of dance routines such as the Shim-Sham, Tranky Do, Big Apple, Stew that were choreographed by some of the original dancers. Many people who are dancing for a while know these fun routines. Feel free to join in if you know the moves or just have fun trying to copy what the person next to you is doing.

•  Jams and dance battles. These are a key part of the origins and culture of swing dancing and swing music. It's a way for community members to share moves, rhythms, inspiration, energy and to show support for one another. So if you see a circle forming on the dance floor get closer and join in.

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING:

•  Failte Swing @ Dublin Studio EVERY MONDAY with open level drop in solo jazz class 7-8pm, beginner drop in swing dance class 8-9pm, fun and friendly social dance, practice session and jazz jam 9-10pm.

•  Failte Hot Club @ Leinster Cricket Club MONTHLY live jazz band party with beginner swing dance class, social dancing, and dance performances ancommunity performances. Dates for 2024 are: Jan 27, Feb 24, Mar 23, Apr 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, Aug 10, Oct 26 and Nov 23.

•  Failte Swing Weekender ANNUAL FESTIVAL is back in 2024 with the amazing Maria & Aurelien teaching, best live bands, best venues, performances, competitions and more Sept 13-15.
